This book seeks to explain our conception of how we really engrave memory into our minds through a process of consolidation, which is determined as “the conversion of immediate and fleeting bits of information into a stable and accessible representation of facts and events.” There is a particular focus on how groups of individuals consolidate memory on a large scale to create bonds and a shared understanding of the past, which serves as a key aspect of creating and maintaining a personal and social identity.
